Rochdale film maker Zafar Iqbal will be premièring his third feature film ‘Jus Chillin’ at the Odeon Cinema in Rochdale on Monday 22 September.
Zafar, who is a writer, director, producer and actor, has spent the last year making this film.
He said: “I love making movies and wanted to make another one so I decided to do this project as my next film.”
Zafar has been making films for over ten years and has seven short films and three feature films behind him.
‘Jus Chillin’ tells the story of four couples who are celebrating being together but during those celebrations something terrible happens which changes their lives forever.
Zafar says that the idea for the story of the film came after watching and observing young people.
He said: “Even though it is fiction, I spent time observing people and seeing what they got up so it has elements of real life because it is based on things I saw. It looks at how people are when they go out, when they are dating and the experiences they go through.”
The film was filmed part in Norden and at Hollingworth Lake as well as in Bolton and Blackpool. ‘Just Chillin’ now completes Zafar’s ‘Rochdalian Trilogy’ of films.
“Every film maker has a trilogy of films and that is something I wanted as well. This film follows on nicely from the other two so it was a nice time to do the trilogy.
“I have called it the Rochdalian trilogy because I am from Rochdale and there is a Rochdale man behind these films. It's all about promoting Rochdale and putting Rochdale out there,” said Zafar.
‘Jus Chillin’ is described by the film maker as “a happy go lucky film mixed with a gangster film” and follows on from the successful releases of ‘Banana Boys’ (2007) and ‘My Big Fat Love Story’ (2012).
Zafar added: “With this film I think people will see the improvements I have made. I am very proud of my other two films but with this one I can definitely see a difference and when we did the run through, I was proud to see those improvements and I am sure everyone will see them as well.”
Now that the film is complete, Zafar is looking forward to the upcoming premiere.
He added: “I am really looking forward to it. I am excited but nervous at the same time. There will be a lot of people there who have supported the film so it will be nice for them to come along and see the final product.”
The premiere will be raising money for five charities. Those charities are:
Qasim Abbas Trust
The NSPCC
The Aamir Khan Foundation
Gaza Crisis Appeal
The Variety Club
Anyone interested in attending the premiere can contact Zafar for tickets on 07730 004498. Tickets are not priced with those interested in attending offering a donation amount for the charities.
