The two NWIB Judges relaxing at the end of their visit with members of Pennines In Bloom at Ladybarn (Milnrow) Bowling Club
Two judges from the North West In Bloom campaign toured the displays of horticultural work and community effort around Wardle, Littleborough, Hollingworth Lake, Milnrow and Newhey and were highly impressed.
The judges were especially impressed with Smallbridge Junior Wardens who were learning at the bird hide at Watergrove Reservoir, the Cedar Lane allotment volunteers of Milnrow, new works and visitors’ feedback at Hollingworth Lake, Hare Hill House and Park, Littleborough Railway Station and Ellenroad Steam Museum.
Three hotspots of Hollingworth Lake, Milnrow Memorial Park, and Ladybarn (Milnrow) Bowling Club are all under special consideration due to their high standard of displays for NWIB “It’s Your Neighbourhood” awards.
Councillor Ann Stott commented: “It is the significant, year-round community effort, and the many local voluntary groups working together, that has impressed the Judges and given us such great initial feedback. I am delighted for everyone involved that we have raised our profile so well across the wider region, whilst benefitting the local places where we live.”
The judges have now returned their confidential scoring to the regional awards, the results of which will be announced at a special ceremony in Southport in late October.
Work for the Pennines In Bloom Group continues as plans and funding are developed for 2015.
Ray Smith, Chairman of Pennines In Bloom, said, “We are delighted that everyone’s efforts have generated such great feedback from the judges. The hard work of our group and others such as the Wardle Volunteers, Littleborough Fire Station, the Parks’ staff and the many 'Friends' groups in our area, really impressed the judges. This has certainly motivated our group with new impetus and ideas for 2015.”
