A group of Guides from Rochdale have returned from four days of high-adrenaline activities, and entertainment from top pop trio Loveable Rogues at Wellies and Wristbands – a girl-only festival exclusively for Girlguiding members.
Members of 101st Rochdale Guides travelled to Waddow Hall in Lancashire to join more than one thousand members of Girlguiding for the action-packed extravaganza over the Bank Holiday weekend (23-26 August).
Thrill-seekers had their pick of the adventurous activities on offer at Waddow Hall - one of Girlguiding’s Training and Activity Centres – including zip wiring, abseiling, canoeing and kayaking, climbing and the crate challenge, which sees fearless participants build a huge tower of crates while harnessed to a rope.
In the evening they were entertained by the Loveable Rogues on the main stage, as well as a host of other bands.
The Rochdale Guides also had the chance to relax and learn new skills - with nail artists, face painting, hot tubs, dance workshops, zorbing and inflatables on the 178-acre site for the occasion.
Among the activities the Rochdale group, all aged 10 to 14, chose to try out were building and sailing a raft on the River Ribble, pioneering, archery and climbing.
Jeska Kelly, 13, said: “I had a fantastic time camping at Wellies & Wristbands. I really enjoyed watching all the bands and taking part in the activities.”
Cleo Newbury, 14, added: “It was an awesome weekend. It was my birthday too – fantastic spending it with my Guide friends. This was my last camp as a Guide, but I look forward to many more camps with the senior section.”
Leader Claire Costello said: “Wellies and Wristbands was a great experience for the girls, there was a real festival-style atmosphere and it was extra special because the event was girl-only.”
