Coco Wallace - Heywood 1st All Souls Brownie of the Year
Date published: 03 September 2014
Coco Wallace, aged 9, is the Heywood 1st All Souls Brownie of the Year.
Coco was chosen for her exceptional behaviour, for being polite and kind and also for being a fantastic role model to the younger Brownies.
The Brownies ended their term with a bowling party at Strike Ten Bowling in Rochdale. The girls had a game of bowling, then enjoyed food in the party room. After which awards were presented.
Tawny Owl, Katie Haigh said: "It was difficult to choose who to award and there were a few girls up for consideration for Brownie of the Year but after discussion with the other unit leaders, it was clear Coco was our winner. She's such a kind and caring girl and we are very proud of her"
Coco said: "I look forward to going to Brownies every Monday and I love it. The Brownie Leaders are great! I was very shocked and very proud at being chosen to be Brownie of the Year"
Runner-up Brownie of the Year was Heidi Kelly. Heidi, aged 8, was also chosen for her exceptional behaviour and for being kind and helpful.
Heidi said: "I was really happy to win runner up Brownie of the Year, I was pleased because Brown Owl said I had a good chance of winning Brownie of the Year in the future, so I'm going to work really hard next year to be a brilliant Brownie."
Other awards on the night included Most Helpful, Most Cheerful, and a special award, Young Leader of the Year, was presented to Hannah Kelly, aged 15, for everything she does for the unit, and for local Guiding.
The girls are looking forward to the Big Brownie Sleepover in celebration of the Big Brownie Birthday. All the Brownies in Heywood will come together for a night of activities to celebrate 100 years of Brownies.
Girlguiding gives girls and young women their own space to have fun, be themselves, build friendships and gain skills.
