Sunny Brow champions nature's lessons

Date published: 03 June 2008

Getting back to nature helps children grow into happy, confident adults - that's the lesson Sunny Brow Nursery School, Middleton wants all children in the borough to be given the chance to learn.

Sunny Brow, the first school in the North West to be awarded Forest School status, will champion nature's lessons when Phil Woolas MP, Minister of State for the Environment, officially opens its Forest Room on 6 June as part of its open day celebrations.

School Head, Julie White said: "The open day will enable us to share the philosophy of the Forest School with a range of professionals, We will show them how the Forest School resources we have can be used to help children learn in a natural environment by experiencing the seasons first hand and exploring the world around them, adding to their knowledge and skills. By learning about plants and animals through outdoor games and activities like building forest trails, children can also pick-up valuable social and emotional skills."

The Forest Room will allow groups of children to visit the Forest School and have easy access to resources like waterproofs, equipment and tools so they get the most out of their time at the school.
