Feel Good Festival: Vibe Youth Music
Date published: 29 August 2014
Vibe Youth Music, a youth music project based in Rochdale, has been filling The Esplanade with a mix of music today (Friday 29 August) by offering live DJ workshops to those in attendance at the Feel Good Festival.
The project, which is the operational brand name of the Backdoor Music Project, got involved to offer something for younger people.
Dave Jepson, from Vibe Youth Music, said: “I had spoken to a few people who had been before and they had said that they didn’t think there was much on for the younger people (usually between 14 and 18) so we decided to see if we could provide something for that age range.”
As part of their stint at the festival, the project is offering live DJ workshops giving young people the chance to mix their favourite tunes on the decks.
Dave added: “We have had a great response and have had a lot of people sign up and say that this is something they would be interested in doing.”
For their activities tomorrow (Saturday 30 August), Dave is hoping to extend their tent to provide space for singers and rappers to show off their skills as well.
“We were given extra space for today but we haven’t been able to use it so for tomorrow we are hoping to have a dance floor space so local singers and rappers can get involved and do some demonstrations,” said Dave.
Vibe Youth Music will also be performing at Bar Mystique tomorrow (Saturday 30 August) between 4pm and 8pm.
Dave said: “It will be a mix of things tomorrow so it will be a DJ set as well as rock bands playing but we have got a lot going on.”
After having such a good experience today, Dave is hoping that Vibe Youth Music can become regulars at the Feel Good Festival and hope to expand what they can offer.
“It is definitely something we would love to do again; hopefully we can offer a bit more and do something bigger. I would love to be able to offer a youth music stage or something like that,” said Dave.
