Kingsway Park High School stepped back into the past recently with a week dedicated to WWI.
To mark the Centenary students and teachers embraced a WWI theme and participated in a number of different activities throughout the commemoration.
The week started with the planting of Poppies in the school grounds followed by the transformation of the school corridors with a historical backdrop consisting of posters, banners, bunting and life size soldiers marking the WWI theme throughout.
In lessons students were able to learn about aspects of war, taking part in different activities.
A number of subjects adapted their lessons to include a WWI element which really helped students get a rounded understanding of the WWI events.
During the week £185.00 was raised for the British Legion with raffles, tombola’s and other events.
An assault course was available during the week to give students the opportunity to compete against each other and experience the physical aspects of war.
Students competed in a military style boot camp and a number of staff dressed in WWI attire.
Friday marked the finale of the week of commemoration with a staggering launch of 500 black and red balloons to symbolise the Poppies. The week was a huge success enjoyed by students and staff alike.
The students of Kingsway Park now know the importance of remembering the many men lost in the war, fighting for our country.
