Morphsuit men at Blackstone Edge for the Tour de France

Date published: 07 July 2014

Red Cape Marketing have well and truly embraced the Tour de France these past few weeks and all of the events and activities they have organised leading up to an appearance by the Morphsuit men at Blackstone Edge on Sunday (6 July).

Red Cape rocked the crowds as the Morphsuit Men handed out flags and goodies to the masses that climbed the hill in Littleborough. Over 500 flags and 200 t-shirts were given out to passers-by, many of them on bike who were grateful for the chance to catch their breath before pushing on towards the White House.

In the build up to the Tour de France, the marketing company held workshops over the last three weeks and the last of those workshops saw over 1,000 people attend on the Butts in Rochdale Town Centre.

During the event, children each collected a free flag to take with them to the tour on Sunday as well as goodie bags and treats. As well as spreading the word about the Tour de France, the workshop also promoted local businesses as hundreds of leaflets were given out containing details of local shops and offers.

Martin Ballard of Red Cape Marketing said: “Being involved these last three weeks helping to spread the word of the Tour De France has been great - it's certainly been a worthwhile experience for us.”

The Wheatsheaf Shopping Centre also embraced the Tour de France and brought retail to the people on the way up to watch the race. The centre's mascots, the All-Star Squad, are already known and loved by the members of the centre's Kids' Clubs but never have they been seen in such remote areas.

Armed with 500 flags to give away and offers from retailers, the daring mascots battled the terrain and conquered the heights, even stopping for photos with the Tour Helpers on the way.

Blur, the green mascot with lightening speed, said: “It was a bit of a struggle walking so slowly but I had to stay with the rest of the All Star Squad - it was great meeting people from all around the world and telling them about Rochdale.”
