Date published: 05 July 2014
The first Dragon Boat race held in aid of Springhill Hospice has raised over £10,000.
Held today (Saturday 5 July) at Hollingworth Lake, the event run by Rochdale Round Table saw 19 teams compete in races on the lake.
As well as the boat races, 20 stalls were selling goods and games were on site for children.
Chairman of Rochdale Round Table Mike Fern said: “It has been brilliant. It has been a really good day and we have raised well over £10,000.”
Mike added: “They [the Hospice] are a really good local charity and do amazing work so we wanted to try and raise as much money for them as
possible.”
The Round Table are now hoping to make this an annual event and are already planning the event for next year.
“We will definitely be doing this again. The response today has been fantastic so it is something we want to make an annual event,” said
Mike.
Alison McGuigan, Fundraising Lead at Springhill Hospice, said: “It has been a fantastic event and we are thrilled to hear that over £10,000 has been raised. We are really happy that this is set to become an annual event.”
