Littleborough Canalside Development Group seeking help

Date published: 20 February 2014

Littleborough Canalside Development Group is seeking help from the people of Littleborough.

The group has  been meeting for several years to discuss and focus minds on all matters which affect the land and premises near to Rochdale Canal and the River Roch as they pass through Littleborough.

It has promoted the 'OWLS' (Observers of Waterway Lengths) who walk the canal towpath and report back to the Rivers and Waterways Trust if they see anything requiring attention or just matters of interest. The group seeks more volunteers for this scheme.

It is also is  supporting the “Littleborough Waterside Project”, which aims within the next one to five years to bring improvements to the Hollingworth Lake area and the area between Todmorden Road and the River Roch/Rochdale Canal. This may enhance public access and improve the tourism offering from these areas of Littleborough.

Group Vice Chairman, and Rochdale Online Director, John Kay, said: "We have for years been promoting the idea of a marina on the canal at Durn, Littleborough, making use of the land owned by Rochdale MBC adjoining the canal.

"The group was disappointed when the cafe on the canal bank at Ealees was force to close and would seek to have this re-opened.

"What other ideas do people have to be included in 'Littleborough Waterside Project'?"

Littleborough Canalside Development Group calls on all residents and visitors to Littleborough to come up with ideas. These can either be emailed to the Vice Chairman John Kay on jkay@molesworths.co.uk or in person by attending the group's next meeting on Tuesday 18 March 2014 at 7.30pm at Littleborough United Reform Church, Victoria Street Littleborough.
