Beech House School

Date published: 21 January 2014

You’ve heard about football scouts and rugby scouts, these little known and rarely seen spotters of talent?

Well who’s ever heard of a choir scout, a spotter of talented vocalists?

In October 2013 one such person was there at speech night to hear a wonderful performance by the Beech House School Junior Choir in front of pupils and parents.

This unknown admirer spread the word, and within a week the choir had been invited to guest perform at the Gracie Fields theatre as part of the Rochdale Youth Orchestra Christmas Extravaganza.

Mr Boardman, Beech House Music Teacher said: “What a fantastic start to the year for the choir and a great reward for hard work during the term. With excitement building we rehearsed feverishly to get ready for our 'star turn’ at Rochdale’s famous venue.

"It was not long before the performance date arrived and with local dignitaries in position, the curtains opened. The children listened encapsulated at the orchestra before toe tapping their way through the jazz band performance (wider grins I have never seen!).

"Then, there we were in front of the bright lights, an anticipated audience somewhere in the darkness of the auditorium. Never have I been so proud, the choir sang beautifully with joy and enthusiasm the performance did not end there as the choir was invited back on stage to lead the singing in the carols.

"It was then that the audience were treated to the angelic voices of Emilia Cooper and Ellie Roebuck who sang so sweetly the first verse of ‘Once In Royal David’s City’. The choir thoroughly deserve all the plaudits I have received since the performance from the many who were there. Well done choir!"

The Beech House School Choir also had the opportunity to bring some festive cheer to the residents of The Mews Nursing Home. They performed a variety of Christmas songs and all the well known carols to an appreciative audience.

The residents clearly enjoyed themselves as they sang or clapped along to our fantastic choir. Year 10 students Cody Birch and Amy Platt brought the house down with a beautiful performance of Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want For Christmas’.

The residents were then treated to the angelic singing of Nicola Healey and Emilia Cooper who sang the first verse of ‘Once In Royal David’s City’. For the residents of The Mews it was a much appreciated treat and for the choir it was a rewarding way to finish a fantastic term. A huge thank you to the choir for their hard work last term and to parents for their wonderful support.
