Family ‘overwhelmed’ by fund raising day for Callum Crombie

Date published: 06 January 2014

A fundraiser held by Littleborough Rugby Union Club for Callum Crombie, 18, who broke his neck whilst playing for the club has been described as an ‘excellent day.’

Elaine Waldron spoke of how Callum’s family had been ‘overwhelmed’ by the occasion.

“We can’t thank them enough. The family is overwhelmed with the generosity and hospitality that they’ve shown.

“There was a tombola and an auction with lots of rugby and sport memorabilia, including some from Blackburn, the team Callum was playing against when he was injured.

“Most of the items sold for twice of what we were expecting so a lot of money has been raised and there is still money coming in so we don’t know a full figure just yet.”

Callum, who is showing slight improvement with each day, has been moved from Salford to Southport in order to continue his rehabilitation and is harbouring hopes of returning to full fitness.

“We’ve had him out of bed and in his wheelchair and into the open,” said Elaine.

“He still has no feeling in his legs at the minute but he is stubborn and determined to be able to walk again. We’re all so proud of him.”

Fundraising continues with one of the Littleborough teams managing to raise over £200 during their recent trip to a match in Eccles.
