Woolly sheep invade town centre

Date published: 14 December 2013

The woolly sheep hunt started by Town Centre Chaplin Margaret Smith has seen woolly sheep invade the shop windows of a number of retailers throughout Rochdale Town Centre.

The aim of the hunt is to guess the names of each sheep by looking in the shop window or by going inside of the shops to find the clues to each sheep’s name.

Shops taking part in the hunt are reporting that the hunt is picking up pace and people are getting involved.

Steven Redgrave, Manager of Game said: “We have had a lot of people in having a look and getting involved.

"The ladies from the Chapliancy always come round as well and keep us updated on it.”

Darren Steel, Manager of Superdrug, said: “It has been a good bit of fun to get involved in.”

Gordana Bond, from Evans, added: “It has been good for the kids. We have had people in for that reason.”

Gemma Tanner, Manager of Peacocks, said: “We have people in and I think it will pick up more next week when the schools break up.

"It has been nice to get involved in something for the town.”

Staff at Coffee Option had run out of entry forms for the hunt saying: “We had forms but they have all gone. We have had a lot of interest with a mix of people getting involved.”

Chris Oakes-Courchene, from Funky Monkey, spoke about his shop's involvement in the hunt. He said: “We like to get involved with anything if we can and thought it would be good to be involved with something going on in the town.”

Shops involved in the hunt are:

  • Virgin Media
  • Superdrug
  • Ryman
  • Peacocks
  • Number Ten
  • Greg Couzens
  • Game
  • Funky Monkey
  • Evans
  • Clintons Cards
  • Coffee Options
  • Body Care

Entry forms for the hunt can be picked up from the Town Centre Chaplaincy or from any shop participating in the hunt. Closing date for entries is 23 December at 11am. The people with the most names collected will then be chosen on Christmas Eve and contacted about their prize.

Your reporter got involved and took part in the hunt and would certainly recommend it for a bit of Christmas fun whilst shopping!
