Children celebrating Judaism

Date published: 26 November 2013

The children in Class 2 at St John with St Michael CE Primary School in Shawforth had a super day celebrating Judaism at the Manchester Jewish Museum.

They looked at special artifacts and listened to a tale of Abraham.

The children found it interesting and Stefan, 6, said: “I really liked looking at stuff in the museum. We tried some little hats on and we looked at each other.”

Later on in the day they returned to school to have a food tasting session with traditional Jewish food.

They spoke about the importance of the food being Kosher (no pork, no shell fish and no mixing of dairy and meat). They enjoyed foods such as poppy seed or seseme seed bagels, apple cake, pretzels, vegetables, and bread sticks.

Thomas, 5, said: “I ate lots and lots of the Jewish food in my class it was nice and I shared mine with my friend because he had non left.”

This was a fantastic learning experience for the children and they learnt so much more by it being hands on.
