We are very proud to be hosting our annual Celebration of Excellence Evening on Thursday 5 December, where we will be celebrating the achievements of our students in the previous academic year (2012-2013). We will be joined at the event by our special guest, Dr Zafar Iqbal, an ex-student who is now a doctor working at Liverpool Football Club. Congratulations to all students, past and present, who will be awarded on the evening.

Year 8 had the pleasure of watching The Message Trust perform a modern day version of The Good Samaritan. The production titled ‘A Town Called Malice’ was watched by all of Year 8 who thoroughly enjoyed seeing the effects of racism and prejudice. Year 8 pupils will be looking at the topic of racism and prejudice in Religious Studies lessons after Christmas.

On Monday, during afternoon registration, the whole school will be participating in DEAR – Drop Everything And Read, to encourage students to read for pleasure in their own time. We have had great success with DEAR before and look forward to sitting down to read together again this week.

Year 11 Art students will be taking a trip to Liverpool Tate Art Gallery on Tuesday 3 December. The students will go on a tour of the gallery and then produce drawings and sketches from the art work, as well as producing a written response to the work and making links to their own coursework. The Art students will then be sitting their mock GCSE Art Exam on Thursday 5 and Friday 6 December.

Congratulations to the Year 9 Girls BadmintonTeam who competed in the Rochdale Schools Badminton Competition and gained a bronze medal. The girls were fantastic ambassadors for the school and thoroughly deserved their bronze medals. The girls involved were Jenna Oldham, Olivia Storto, Moet Griffiths and SamiyaKaramat. A special mention must also go to Alina Akbar who just missed out on selection for the team but still came along and supported the team. The girls beat Mathew Moss, Holy Family and Middleton Tech School and were narrowly beaten by St.Cuthbert`s in the semi-final.

The Year 9 Boys Badminton Team achieved a bronze medal. They won two matches, against Siddal Moor and Matthew Moss, and lost one, to Holy Family, in the group stages of the tournament, which allowed them to progress to the semi-finals. They lost this match against Middleton Tech, but triumphed in the bronze medal match against Kingsway Park. Congratulations to Will Taylor, Hassan Ul-Rehman, Ibrahim Ansari and Joe Wrest.

The Year 7 boys narrowly missed out on being Rochdale Year 7 5-a-side champions last night, losing the league to Middleton on goal difference. Once again they were tremendous in all five games! Well done to: Cameran Howarth, Ethan Haworth, Thomas Johnson, Steven Johnson, Andrew Hill, Harry Toogood, Joe Noon and Man of the Tournament, Oliver Godwin.
