Elaine Stott takes on national advisory role

Date published: 26 November 2013

Healthy activities instructor Elaine Stott is about to take on a new national role as an advisor on fitness and exercise to health.

Elaine has been invited to work alongside doctors as a Lay Adviser to the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine (FSEM), which helps to shape the future of sport and exercise medicine in the UK. It is an inter-collegiate faculty of the Royal College of Physicians of London and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. This is one of only four appointments to be made from across the country from the fitness industry.

Speaking about her invitation, Elaine said: The Faculty of SEM was seeking volunteers who are passionate about exercising and have an interest in exercise as a means to health and recovery from illness. I was delighted to be invited to take part and look forward to taking an active part in their committee and working groups.”

Elaine is an Active Communities fitness and exercise instructor within Link4Life’s Neighbourhood and Communities team working across the Rochdale borough. She works particularly with individuals and groups who find it difficult to exercise for a variety of reasons. Her healthy lifestyles classes include a very successful yoga group designed for people who have back and neck injuries. Previous work with young women and girls from the Asian community has been recognised as national best practice. In her spare time, Elaine has been a runner up in a national burlesque competition and has raised thousands of pounds for the British Heart Foundation's Mending Broken Hearts Campaign from charity dance events.

Elaine will take up her new role in the new year.
