Interfaith Cultural Conference

Date published: 26 November 2013

Over 80 people attended an 'Interfaith Cultural Conference' on Wednesday 20 November 2013 at the Multicultural Arts and Media Centre (MAMC).

Mohammed Sarwar, CEO of MAMC, said: “The purpose of the conference was to look at the collective approach of asking questions, listen to diverse views, compare answers and make informal decisions about what to do next to improve quality of life and wellbeing. It’s so important to understand and promote our wealth of cultures and faiths across the borough.

"We were so pleased to see people from various sectors who feel the need to be involved in more cultural based events to increase better understanding of communities, faiths and cultures.”

"The feedback is being documented and also recorded on DVD. An event will be organised to highlight the findings to feed into the policies and service providers."

Speakers:

What is Culture/Diversity? – Irfan Chishti (MBE) -
Understanding your Community - Chief Inspector Nadeem Mir
Multiculturalism in Schools? - Peter Owen (SACRE – School
Improvement Team)
M Sarwar (CEO-MAMC) - How can Arts and Media help wellbeing?

The event was organised by MAMC and supported by Clinical Commissioning Group (HMR), The Cohesion Hub (RMBC), Greater Manchester Police and Link4Life.
