New family homes to be built in Deeplish

Date published: 19 November 2013

Construction work for nine new family homes for affordable rent in Deeplish will soon be underway.

The planned development comprises six three-bedroom homes, two four-bedroom homes and one five-bedroom home. The homes have been designed by architects TADW to provide modern flexible family living, with features including extra bathroom facilities and multi-purpose rooms that can be divided.

The houses will be built on the former site of the Ashfield House sheltered scheme, on the corner of Ashfield Road and Milkstone Road. Planning permission was granted by Rochdale Council Planning Committee in September 2013, and work is expected to commence in early 2014.

Grant funding of over £200,000 has been secured from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) by Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH).

This new money is in addition to the existing HCA agreement under which RBH will build 100 new homes between 2012 and 2015. Our pioneering approach has already seen tenants move into new homes this year - six new family homes on Waithlands Road in Newbold, and 14 new homes on Longridge Drive in Heywood.

Clare Tostevin, RBH Head of Strategy and Regeneration, said: “We’re delighted to have secured additional grant funding to help us to develop this empty site. Quality new homes are an important priority for our members and our communities. This development will provide stylish new high-quality homes for local residents in a part of Rochdale where we know there is very high demand for larger family homes.”

Deborah McLaughlin, Executive Director North West at the HCA, said: “I’m pleased that we are able to support RBH in creating more quality, affordable housing in Rochdale. These much-needed new homes will have a positive impact on area and will help ensure that local people have access to great homes where they want to live."
