Hospital goes pink to help in the fight against breast cancer

Date published: 13 November 2013

Staff at BMI The Highfield Hospital showed their support for charity Breakthrough Breast Cancer by wearing pink to raise vital funds and awareness of the disease.

The team at the Rochdale hospital, got behind ‘Wear It Pink Friday’ and raised over £200 for the breast cancer charity, which was kindly donated by patients, staff and visitors.

Executive Director at BMI The Highfield Hospital, Marge Falconer said: “Supporting breast cancer charities is so important because everyone knows someone who has been affected by the disease.

"‘Wear it Pink’ is a light-hearted way to raise awareness of a serious and often devastating disease, and we all got behind the campaign at BMI The Highfield Hospital collecting donations from colleagues, patients and visitors.”

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the UK and nearly 1,000 women die of the disease each month.

Breakthrough Breast Cancer, together with Breast Cancer Care, are leading the fight against the disease by developing new treatments, raising awareness and campaigning for better services for patients.

Money raised from the Pink Friday fundraising campaign will be spent on research, campaigning and education work.
