Taste of Fiji and Ireland comes to Rochdale

Date published: 22 October 2013

The Flying Horse Hotel in Rochdale town centre is getting ready to welcome Rugby League World Cup 2013 in style and to mark the historic fixture between Fiji and Ireland at Spotland, the 'Flyer' will be serving a traditional Fijian menu on the day of the game and some famous Irish specialities.

Owner Ben Boothman says it’s the perfect way to get into the world cup spirit: “I’m expecting Fijian curry and Irish stew to be popular choices, with visitors getting the chance to sample South Sea Island fayre or a hearty Irish favourite before heading to the game.

"All the food will be home cooked and hopefully it will give people the perfect excuse, if they need one, to enjoy some tasty pre match food.

"Proceeds will be donated to local charities, and from 6.00pm a March to the Match sets off from our front door with customers heading to Spotland Stadium.”

The Flying Horse is open from 12.00pm until late on match day, with Fijian and Irish food and drinks being served from 4.00pm.

Fiji has been designated by tournament organisers as the adopted nation of Rochdale for the duration of the tournament.

Tickets starting at £10 (£5 concessions) are available to purchase online at www.rlwc2013.com/rochdale or by phoning 0844 847 2013. Tickets are also available in person from Spotland Stadium box office.
