Beech House School

Date published: 15 October 2013

As part of this year’s LEAF activities run by Rochdale MBC, Year 5 went to Touchstones to learn about FunTrade FanTastic. They attended s workshop explaining Fair Trade and why money is given to farmers. The pupils really enjoyed learning about all of the different products available and why it is important to buy Fair Trade products. They especially enjoyed the chocolate given out at the end!

To mark the end of LEAF week, Year 5 went to Healey Dell Nature Reserve to discover all of the different types of trees in the Park. They looked at Oak, Beech, Ash, Scott's Pine and Sycamore to name but a few. They also found out about Oak Apple Gall Wasps in preparation fort heir biology in Year 6.

Beech House travelled to Liverpool for the annual ISA swimming championships for the North of England. There were some outstanding performances, with Jack Cryer qualifying for the national championships in his 50m Butterfly. This made up for his disappointment at missing out on the 100m freestyle event after finishing second.

In the ISA under 11 North of England Water Polo finals held at Middleton, the Beech House A team reached the final. In a hard fought final they lost out to Forest School, but they were proud silver medalists.

Beech House travelled to Siddal Moor in an attempt to continue their fine run of form. Unfortunately their fourteen month unbeaten run came to an end, when the boys didn’t perform as they can do in the first half. Trailing 0 :4 the regained some of their form in the second half losing the game 1 : 6. Haider Hussein made his debut as a second half substitute and he should be proud of how he conducted himself.
