Put your child’s Future First - Help them make their crucial post 16 career and education decisions. Visit the Future First event at Rochdale Town Hall on Wednesday 23 October 2013 from 4-00pm until 7-00pm. This is to help students with difficult decisions they have to make when they leave school.

All parents/ carers can have the opportunity to get up to date knowledge of what is available. Future First is a drop-in event (no need to book) where you can talk to and gather info from representatives of Colleges, Sixth Forms, Sixth Form Colleges, Universities and Apprenticeship providers from all over Greater Manchester.

This week, Year 10 and 11 students will be doing their English Language and Literature controlled assessments, and Year 10 students will also be doing their Music controlled assessment. The students have been working hard in preparation for their assessments, and we wish them luck as they undertake these, which contribute to their final GCSE grades.

A reminder that the third payment instalment of £30 for the Belgium Battlefields trip is due by the end of October. This can be done via cash, cheque or Parentmail. The final payment instalment of £44 is due by Christmas. Thank you, Mrs Tarran.

A group of Year 9 Business Studies students will be going to Cadbury World, Bourneville, Birmingham on Thursday 24th October. Whilst there, they will be taken on a tour of the site and will receive an educational talk from staff at Cadbury World. We hope they have an enjoyable and informative day out.

A big thank you to all parents who came along to support their child at Year 7 Pupil Review Day. It was pleasing that so many parents attended the meetings with form tutors to discuss how well their child has settled in at Oulder Hill. The meetings were beneficial for all the staff and students involved and we look forward to more successful events with the Year 7 parents in future.

Mr Hill’s form (9F) did their assembly on the Rugby League World Cup last week, they were joined by the Chief Executive of Rochdale Hornets, Ryan Bradley, who explained what would be happening in the build up to the big game, Ireland vs Fiji, at Spotland Stadium. Megan Ratu also talked about her Fijian roots and why this game in particular was coming to Rochdale.

Congratulations to the Year 9 football team who drew 3-3 against a very strong Holy Family team. The team played exceptionally well and were unlucky not to take all 3 points after conceding in the last two minutes of the game. The team was: Kyle Dixon, Owain Harrison, Will Moore, Dominic Booth, Cameron Filkin, Luke Straszewski, Jamie Ogden, Brandon Coughlan, Steven Nairn, Brandon Kwei-Sutcliffe and Daniel Cryer. Mr Pickles’ Man of the Match was Luke Straszewski.

The Year 10's second game of the season saw them take on Holy Family at Oulder Hill. After a thrilling encounter, the final score was 5-2 to Oulder Hill. The team was: Ewan Johnson, Josh Matthews, Jamie Pope, Buck Parker, Adam Rushden, Jake Naylor, Jacob Ellis, Corey Hill, Alex Wilcock, Bailey Smyth, Morgan Stubbs and Charlie Hill. Mr Noon’s Man of the Match was Buck Parker - quality at the back and dealt with almost everything thrown at him by Holy Family. Other notable performances came from: Ewan Johnson – cool, calm and collected with an excellent kicking performance; Adam Rushden - helped Buck soak up all the Holy Family pressure; Bailey Smyth - now has 5 goals in 2 games; Morgan Stubbs - beautiful strike for first goal - had to be seen!; and Jake Naylor - competitive against two players who were much taller and stronger - never gave up. Well done boys!

School closes for half term at 2:50pm on Friday 25th October. We hope you have a nice relaxing break, and we look forward to welcoming you back refreshed at 8:30am on Monday 4 November.
