Falinge Park High School

This week saw the school celebrate National Dialect Day on Friday 18 October. Learners took part in dialect quizzes in tutor time and were able to read works by Edwin Waugh and look at the history of dialect in Rochdale. Several classes used Waugh's poems as a starting point for choral speaking or performance work. Well done to everyone who took part in the day's celebrations.

Many thanks to the primary staff and arts professionals who joined us for our termly Arts Promotional Network (AProN) Meeting this week as we discussed a range of creative projects and opportunities that are to unfold over the next academic year. Our next meeting takes place in our new school building on Wednesday 26 February 2014. For more details, contact Mr De Courcey.

BTEC Dance students took a trip to the Lowry to see Rambert Dance Company perform this week. Learners watched the company perform several contemporary dance pieces and a lovely afternoon was enjoyed by all. Many thanks to Ms Wystawnoha and Mr Morley for leading the visit.

Learners across school enjoyed annual 'No Pens Day' this week as they undertook a range of tasks centred on Speaking and Listening. Students and staff alike found the day a real and rewarding challenge as lessons centred on discussion and group work.

Songwriting Club takes place every Monday after school in F6 and is led by Mr Dalby. New members are always made welcome and the club caters for both experienced and inexperienced musicians. For more details, please contact Mr Dalby in the CEPA Office.

Tickets for our ‘Arts and Curry Night’ on Friday 22 November are still available from school prices at £5.00 (no conc). This includes the cost of food and entertainment. A vegetarian option will also be available. Tickets are available directly from school via telephone or via students at breaktimes, lunchtimes or after school. For more details please see Mr DeCourcey.

Tickets for our forthcoming ‘Night Terrors’ BTEC Drama are available from the CEPA office. The show features spooky drama from a range of scripts and takes place in the grounds of Wycoller Hall in Lancashire. For more details, please contact Mr DeCourcey.

If any students have lost any items of school uniform, coats, bags, PE kits, etc., please ask them to check at Main Reception. All these items will be being disposed of at the end of this term. Please could parents ensure that all items of school uniform including PE bags are clearly labelled with their child’s name, as this would greatly help staff in returning the ‘lost’ items back to the students.

We wish many of our learners a happy Eid this week and ask that learners who celebrate the occasion ensure that they provide a suitable note or letter from their parents upon their return to school.
