Broad-brush appeal

Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH) has joined an innovative Community RePaint network that has helped brighten peoples’ homes and communities across the UK. Donate your leftover paint and they will make sure it gets a new lease of life.

Community RePaint schemes collect reusable, leftover paint, varnishes and wood stains and re-distribute it to individuals, families, communities and charities in need, therefore, also diverting them from landfill.

RBH Sustainability Co-ordinator, Ros Martin said: “We are delighted to have secured funding through GMWDA’s Community Waste Fund to help set this scheme up. Following on from the success of RBH’s Pass-it-On furniture re-use scheme, this initiative offers another win-win solution; helping people in need, and reducing waste at the same time.”

At the moment the scheme will be an exclusive service for tenants. As the project develops RBH hope to be able to extend the offer to community groups – though this will be dependent on the levels of stock acquired through donations.

Martin Pearse, Community RePaint Network Manager, said: “Community RePaint offers a simple solution to the problem of waste paint. By reusing it in our communities and within families on low incomes, we can bring a splash of colour to the lives of those who need it most, and help protect the environment.”

Much of the scheme’s success relies upon the support and donations from local people in the decorating industry and merchants. If you have some excess material to donate, please contact Mark Brierley:
