Flashmob choir for Literature Festival

Date published: 10 October 2013

A search is on for people who love to sing, regardless of ability or experience, to perform in a flashmob choir as part of a musical extravaganza entitled 'Frozen Music' as part of the 'Rochdale Literature & Ideas Festival'.

The evening will consist of many components, including a newly commissioned fanfare and wind band piece, alongside a 'silent disco' involving musicians from the Youth Wind Band at the Rochdale Music Service over the course of three hours. The climax of this piece will be a vocal 'encore' involving members of the general public.

The song features words by local poets whose poetry has inspired the music that will be performed that evening and can be found, and downloaded, here as sang by Rochdale choir, Cantare. There are also links to the music (if you are a music reader) and lyric sheets.

There are several rehearsals, but these are by no means compulsory, the first of which will be Tuesday 15 October at 5.30pm at Number One Riverside. There will be several other rehearsals.

Composer, Musical Director and Animateur, Michael Betteridge, said: "The three hour performance is intended to showcase many of the different elements of the borough of Rochdale. The more people who are able to contribute to the performance the more exciting the finished product will be."
