John Parker raises £500 for Springhill Hospice

Date published: 09 October 2013

John Parker has raised £500 for Springhill Hospice in memory of his friend Gerry Sullivan who died at the Hospice.

John held an Irish Benefit Concert and dance to raise the money on Friday 4 October. Held at Wellfield Working Men’s Club, the event included music from a band that travelled from Ireland and Irish Dancers from Rochdale.

John said: “Gerry raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for charity so this was held on his behalf.”

Gerry, 88, died in March at the Hospice. He was well known for his support of the Hospice as well as working to raise money for many other Rochdale charities.

John presented Springhill Hospice with a cheque on Monday 7 October and said: “I wish I had a hell of a lot more for them.”

Approximately 90 people attended the event to help raise the money and John added: “There were an awful lot of people who came and it was a really enjoyable night.”
