Date published: 07 October 2013

Smallbridge Library Youth Group put on a cohesion fund raising event at Smallbridge Library to celebrate the end of the summer holidays and the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. The event raised £500 and the youth group decided to donate £250 to an international charity and £250 to Springhill Hospice.

Lillie Winterbottom, Community Fundraiser had the pleasure of showing the group around Spirnghill Hospice: "It was a pleasure showing them around and hopefully I was able to dispel a few misconceptions about hospices.

"I know the group is keen to carry on fundraising for the Hospice and look forward to supporting them in their future events."

Youth worker Mohammed Zarafat said: “I’m really looking forward to seeing the young people that I have the privilege of working with at the youth club building on the success of their first fund raising event.”

Councillor Aftab Hussain said: “It’s really nice to see young people learning about and supporting such community causes.

"Springhill Hospice has supported the community of Rochdale for many years and it’s good to know that they are raising the awareness of their services.

Councillor Amna Mir added “Well done to the youth group for sharing its success with Springhill Hospice. The young people and I have learnt a lot from this visit to the Hospice."

The youth group is organising a second fund raising event on Sunday 13 October at Smallbridge Library.

Councillor Mir added: "I would also encourage the community to come and participate at their event.”
