Kym Lomas entertains at the Masquerade Ball

Coronation Street actress Kym Lomas was the star guest at the Giving Back Masquerade Ball held in the Great Hall at Rochdale Town Hall tonight (Saturday 5 October).

Kym and her daughter Emily Cunliffe provided entertainment for the event as well as up and coming singer Ashley Mellon, pianist Chalce Williams and a night of fun and games, including heads and tales and gold rush.

The money raised is to be donated to Springhill Hospice and Women’s Housing Action Group, a domestic violence charitable organisation.

Rochdale Council Deputy Chief Executive and Chairwoman of the charity, Linda Fisher said: “Both charities rely on contributions and we wanted to help local charities that make a difference in Rochdale.”

“Its our first event so we’re a bit nervous.”

Kym Lomas said: “I am really glad to be here, as is Emily. It is for two fantastic charities and I am really pleased to be involved.”

Linda also thanked the many local businesses that made contributions: “The local businesses who have donated to the event have been incredible. I can’t thank them enough.

“I don’t know exactly how much we will raise but we would like to be able to give the charities a substantial amount.”

Kirsty Rhodes, Managing Director of Women’s Housing Action Group, a charitable organisation founded in 1981 to offer housing and support to vulnerable women added: Masquerade Ball“Thanks to everyone who helped organise this event and to all who attended. The money raised will contribute to maintaining our vital support services … your help is appreciated by everyone, thank you.”

Councillor Robert Clegg, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Springhill Hospice said: “On behalf of Springhill Hospice I would like to say a massive thank you. I know this evening has been arranged in a very short space of time, but it has certainly made a difference.”

The ball was organised by ‘Number One Riverside – Giving Back’ with support from over 25 local businesses including JD Alexander Jewellers, Dolly Birds Beauty Salon, Stage Sound and Light Ltd, Treat Yourself Boutique, Gregory Couzens and Number 10 Gift Shop & Gallery.
