St Ann's Centenary Celebration

Date published: 05 October 2013

St Ann’s Church in Belfield has been celebrating its centenary anniversary this week with the celebrations coming to an end this weekend.

Reverend Graham Lindley said: “It has been brilliant. We have had lots of people coming in.”

The church was open allowing people to visit and look around and a craft area for children was set up.

Revd Lindley added: “It is just a good way for the youngsters to get involved.”

Inside the church was a collection of pictures displaying different activities and services that the church has held over the years as well as an opportunity for people to sign the visitors book.

“These events have opened up a lot of memories for people,” added Revd Lindley.

Kathryn Butterworth, who has been attending the church since 1945, said: “It always had a good atmosphere and it used to be packed. I have a lot of fond memories here.”

Judith Pauls who visited the church said: “Churches are interesting places to visit because they are part of our heritage and were a big part in peoples lives.”

St Ann's church is Belfield’s Anglican Parish Church. It was consecrated by the Bishop of Manchester in 1913 and is located at Rochdale Road, Belfield.

Revd Lindley added: “It has taken a lot of organising but it has been great and we are pleased with the turnout.

"Here’s to another 100 years.”
