The Jack show on Crescent Radio

Date published: 05 October 2013

Jack Grindrod from Wardle and Jack Nolan from Moston have had their 15 minutes of fame on Rochdale’s local radio station, Crescent Radio.

The boys, both in their second year of a Television and Radio Production course at Hopwood Hall College, were offered the opportunity to do a work experience placement at the radio station and meet local broadcaster Nasrine Akhtar – and they jumped at the chance.

17-year-old Jack Grindrod commented: “I am pleased to have had this chance to get some real live experience of how a radio station works and go live on air and speak to all the listeners. It’s been really exciting. I feel more confident speaking live on air and having the chance to be part of the show has taught me a great deal about broadcasting. Jack and I would definitely like the chance to do another show in the future”.

Crescent Radio support local schools and colleges, giving young people in the community a chance to do work experience placements in order to gain an insight into the world of work. Nasrine Akhtar, Crescent Radio presenter, explained: “It is important for the development of young people as it gives them the opportunity to increase their confidence and show the importance of working as part of a team.

"Young people are our future and here at Crescent Radio we are pleased to work in partnership with the College.

"It has been a pleasure to accommodate Jack and Jack and we would like to invite them both back later in the year to update us on how they are getting along.”

Howard Holt, lecturer on the TV and Radio Production course at the College said: “I’m always grateful for the kind of opportunities provided by Nasrine and Crescent Radio. They add to the value and credibility of our courses and allow students the opportunity to showcase their practical and social skills developed during their studies. This in turn provides both a confidence boost and an important step in their career development.”
