Rochdale Samaritans to walk up Blackpool’s Big One!

Date published: 05 October 2013

Six Samaritans from the Rochdale Oldham and District Samaritans will be walking up what was once the world’s tallest roller coaster, Blackpool’s Big One.

The walk is in aid of raising funds for the branch of the Samaritans and will take place on Friday 18 October at 7.00pm.

Paula Dickinson, from the Samaritans said: “There are 420 steps so I don’t think that will be too bad but I can imagine the height being the problem.”

The rollercoaster is 235ft tall.

Any money raised from the fundraising will go towards keeping the branch of the Samaritans up and running, allowing the Samaritans to still help people in the area.

The group hope to raise £2,000.

The group got the idea after someone saw it being done on TV. Paula said: “We were sat in a meeting and wanted to do something a bit different and someone mentioned this so we just decided to go with it.”

The Samaritans are available to people who need their help and support 24 hours a day. They provide confidential emotional support for people who are experiencing feelings of distress or despair, including those which may lead to suicide.
