Advice for Metrolink passengers travelling this weekend

Date published: 04 October 2013

Metrolink is advising passengers to check their journey before travelling this weekend (5/6 October).

On Saturday Manchester City will play Everton at the Etihad Campus with a 12.45pm kick off. Matches will also take place throughout the day at Old Trafford for the Rugby Super League Grand Final, with 65,000 expected to attend the 6pm match.

With an evening concert at the Phones4U Arena, services are expected to be busy throughout Saturday.

There will also be changes to the Metrolink service on Sunday 6 October while improvements are made to the network. Replacement bus services will run on some lines.

Transport for Greater Manchester’s Metrolink Director, Peter Cushing, said: “As usual we’ll be running extra services with double trams for both Saturday’s big sporting events. It goes without saying that services will be busy so we recommend people allow extra time for their journey.

“We’ll have plenty of staff at key stops on the network to advise customers and help anyone visiting the city who may not have used our trams before.

“A lot of planning goes into big event days like this so that we can meet the high demand for travel from both our regular and new passengers. I wish all the teams good luck and hope our passengers enjoy their day.”

Full information on all Metrolink services, including planned changes to this Sunday’s services, is available on 0161 205 2000 or by visiting www.metrolink.co.uk
