Young photographer competition

Date published: 04 October 2013

A young photographer competition for people aged between 8 and 18 years old is being held by The Rotary Club of Middleton.

The competition is looking for photographs of people and places which capture life in Middleton, the atmosphere, the environment, the impact of the seasons and weather on life and so on.

This is the first time the competition is being run by the club and Sue Furby, Chairwoman of the Youth and Vocational Committee said: “We want to engage youngsters with Middleton.”

The competition is split into two age categories: 8-13 years and 14-18 years (age before 1 May 2014.) Entrants can submit up to a maximum of three photographs and they can be in colour, black and white or sepia.

Entrants have the opportunity to be creative so images can be digitally enhanced and each photo needs a caption or a title.

“We are also allowing them to show off their computer skills as well as taking photos,” added Sue.

All photographs must include the name, age and contact details of the person entering the competition and must be sized for easy emailing.

Photographs will be judged by a panel of Middleton Rotarians and expert photographers. Winners of each category will receive a £50 cash prize and photographs will be on public display in Middleton throughout summer 2014 and on Rochdale Online.

Some photos could also be published in a Rotary Club Calendar of Middleton for 2015. Sue added: “If this goes ahead, it can be a way of raising money for charity.”

Closing date for entries is the 30 April 2014 and winners will be announced on Rochdale Online in June 2014.

Entries can be emailed to the Rotary Club of Middleton at: middletonrotaryyvpc@yahoo.co.uk
