Staff at Fix Auto raise £1,100 for The British Heart Foundation

Staff from Fix Auto Rochdale have raised  £1,100 for The British Heart Foundation after taking part in a charity bike ride from The Trafford Centre to Blackpool.

The bike ride took place on Saturday 28 September and Sunday 29 September with riders setting off from The Trafford Centre at 12:30am.

Phil Ewbank, who owns and manages Fix Auto Rochdale, said: “Our target was £1000. We have so far raised almost £1100 and we delighted with this.

The charity is one that is close to Phil’s heart. His cousin battled with heart problems from an early age and sadly lost her battle leaving her young daughter to grow up without her mum.

Phil added: “We are truly amazed at the support shown by people so we hope to raise a little more before closing the date.”

The team arrived at Blackpool Tower at  5:15am and Phil said: “All four of us said the ride went really well and we actually enjoyed every part of it.

"We are grateful for the time given from our support team at the stops along the way keeping us refueled.”

Fix Auto Rochdale staff are now planning other ways that they can raise funds for their chosen charity. Staff are thinking of fundraising ideas including climbing Snowdon, a 10k run and next year’s Manchester to Blackpool bike ride.

Phil added: “I would just like to compliment The British Heart Foundation on a fantastic event. It was so well organised and most importantly well marshaled, ensuring the welfare and safety of all the riders who took part.

"This is an event that all levels of riders can enter and I would encourage others to have a go next year and raise money and have some fun at the same time.”
