Danczuk's to open a delicatessen in town

Date published: 03 October 2013

In what represents a huge vote of confidence in Rochdale town centre, Councillor Karen Danczuk is looking to open a delicatessen at 2 - 4 The Walk.

Mrs Danczuk has applied for an alcohol licence so the deli can also sell bottles of wine to customers, and perhaps in the future "hold small gatherings on a Friday evening".

Mrs Danczuk will give up her job as secretary to her husband, Rochdale MP Simon Danczuk, when the shop opens, which she says she hopes will be before Christmas.

"I'm delighted to be opening a business in Rochdale Town Centre. It's a delicatessen that will offer traditional and continental foods and wines and it will also provide hot drinks and freshly made sandwiches," said Mrs Danczuk.

"I really hope people will enjoy it."

Mr Danczuk, who has been a vocal critic of Rochdale Council's regeneration policy in the town centre, said: "I am putting my money where my mouth is."

Pauline Journeaux, Chairwoman of local trade organisation, RRR, said: "If the Danczuk's are prepared to risk their own money to open a business in the town centre they are to be applauded."

It is understood the prospect of a new deli has been welcomed by other businesses in The Walk, with Greg Couzens taking to social media to express his welcome.
