Congratulations go to Daisi Daniels who became the Indoor British Skiing U12 Champion this weekend. She also became the Skicross U14 British Champion and also the third overall female at Skicross in the Open Age.

Beech House under football 15 team travelled to Hollingworth BEC to kick of the new season. After winning the Division 2 title last year the boys are now playing in the First Division. The Beech House boys equipped themselves excellently working hard on and off the ball. The defence held strong and the midfield moved the ball around excellently. Beech House took the lead through Jack Cryer and held on for a long time but Hollingworth worked their way back into the game and equalised. The final score was1:1. Beech House started the season really well and the man of the match was Umair Ahmad who worked really hard in the tackle and looked at home in his new position.

The under 12 football team took part in the Rotary Club’s National Five A-side Finals over the summer. They were held at The National Football Centre, St George’s in Burton upon Trent. This was a great opportunity for the boys to play in a national tournament at the training of the England football team. They even played their games on the David Beckham pitch! Although they lost all their group games to more well-established teams, the boys thoroughly enjoyed themselves and have lots of good memories of their day. Many thanks to the Rochdale Rotary Club and Dr Smithard for supporting us at the event.

The under 11 football started their season with a couple of friendly games. In their first match against Holy Family they were well beaten by a well organised team. Player of the match was Thomas Stott, who was making his debut for the under 11’s. The second match against Hillcrest saw a number of players starting for the first time for the older age group. The A team lost 1-3 whilst the B team lost 0 -5 . Players of the day were Danyal Ali and Saif Azeez. Luke Ashworth scored the only goal for Beech House.

The under 16 netball team took part in the Independent Schools north of England netball finals at The Grange School, Cheshire. The school fielded a strong team and they were rewarded with one win, one draw and four defeats to finish sixth overall, their best placing since entering the tournament four years ago. The team played with great confidence and at times their netball was of a high standard. Players of the day were Rebecca Whitaker and Amy Platt, whilst Cecily Morgan continued to flourish in her role of Goal Attack and Captain of the team.

The under 13 netball team played a friendly against Oulder Hill. For many of the girls this was the first time that they had played in the 7 aside format of the game. Although they worked hard and had some good periods throughout the game, they were beaten by their more experienced opponents. It is hoped that the team will play in some more games to get used to playing together. Player of the match was Olivia Rigg.

Pupils in Year 10 and 11 are currently undertaking a 10 course in kayaking and sailing at Hollingworth Lake. Some of the pupils are using the course as part of the GCSE PE course, whilst for others it is contributing to their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award.
