iPhone iOS7 potential risks

Date published: 30 September 2013

Two potential risks have been identified with the new iPhone iOS7 - thieves can make it so that the Police cannot track the phone nor can the telecoms companies wipe the data.

The default settings for the new update allows any user to access the control centre from the lock screen without entering a password, which then allows someone to put the phone in ‘Airplane’ mode.

The Airplane mode stops the handset from sending and receiving a signal making it impossible for the phone's location to traced or blocked.

This can be changed in your settings by going into ‘Control Centre’ and then un-check the ‘Access on Lock Screen’.

The second setting that needs changing is within ‘Siri’. Even with the above setting changed, you can still disable the signal by asking Siri to put the handset in Airplane mode. This can also be changed by going to Settings> General> Passcode Lock> and then disable Siri under the 'Allow Access When Locked'.
