New scheme to help first time buyers
Date published: 10 April 2008
First time buyers can get a foot on the property ladder thanks to a new scheme in Middleton. Potential home owners can buy a share in new, architect designed homes.
Contour Homes unveiled its new show home at Sherbourne Park, part of the Sherbourne Road development, to residents and councillors this week.
The scheme allows first time buyers to purchase a 50% or 75% share in the property rather than the usual 100%.
Contour's Victoria Young explained: “Trying to get on to the property ladder is difficult for too many people and this Government approved route into home ownership is proving very popular.
“At Sherbourne Park we have already reserved 4 of the 10 properties available as people recognise this as an affordable way to purchase their own home.”
The scheme has received the full support of Rochdale Council. Councillor Zulfiqar Ali said: "This scheme is an excellent example of a true partnership initiative which will create a more sustainable community on the Hollin estate due to the development of new affordable homes both for rent and sale.”
