Oktoberfest: The Jackson Kay Band

Date published: 28 September 2013

The Jackson Kay Band took to the stage at The Flying Horse last night (Friday 27 September) as part of the Oktoberfest line up.

The band held one of their 'band-i-okie' sessions as well as performing a few cover songs.

Band-e-okie is a form of Karaoke but with a live band. A song list is passed round to the audience and they chose the song. The band then provides the music whilst the audience provides the vocals.

Band member, Jackson said: “Band-i-okie is a really popular format that really goes down a storm with people.”

The band, from Whitworth, is a four piece band that has been together for three years.

The band are regulars at The Flying Horse but have never played as part of Oktoberfest before.

Jackson added: “These smaller gigs are good because you can interact with people more.”

Bar manager, Jon Hudson said: “They get a good turnout and are really popular”

Rochdale’s Oktoberfest started yesterday and Jon said: “It has been really busy and started well. The steins have really been flowing.”

The festival continues today with Rochdale’s Oompah band, The Jager Maestros Oompah Band performing from 9.30pm.

The band has promised to give a performance that will include music, laughter and drinking.
