Weeds to be cleared out of Queens Park lake
Date published: 27 September 2013

Queens Park, Heywood
Up to sixty 16 to 17 year olds will be working with Countryside Rangers to clear out weeds from Queens Park Lake in Heywood on Sunday 29 September.
The lake supports a population of water fowl and fish, and the trees on the island boasts a large heronry. However, weeds in the lake are increasing and this could ultimately have a detrimental effect on fish stocks and other wildlife.
The aim is to improve the wildlife value of the lake, which will enhance the attractiveness of a park enjoyed by many visitors from the local community and further afield.
To round off the event participants will enjoy a barbecue.
There have been two other Challenge Network activities in Rochdale Borough this year: a gardening project in Springfield Park and a cycling challenge at Healey Dell.
The Challenge Network is a national charity that was founded in 2009. Its mission is to connect and inspire people to strengthen their communities. They aim to bring together local people across all generations, ethnic groups and incomes to build a stronger society.
