Date published: 27 September 2013

St Ann’s Church in Belfield, which opened in 1913, will be celebrating its centenary anniversary on 2 October.

To celebrate the centenary the church has organised a number of events and activities to mark the milestone.

The five day celebration will begin on 2 October with a Choral Evensong starting at 6:30pm. The guest preacher at the service will be the Venerable Cherry Vann, the Archdeacon of Rochdale.

St Ann’s will be open between 10.00am and 4.00pm from Thursday 3 October – Saturday 5 October. During the Saturday opening, a children’s craft session will also be running between 2.00pm and 4.00pm.

During the celebrations, visitors will also be able to view a flower festival, an audio visual presentation, Church registers, historical documents and pictures.

Parish Priest Graham Lindley said: “By hosting these events we can hopefully evoke memories of the old times” added Revd Lindley.

St Ann’s Church has played host to many marriages, funerals and baptisms over its 100 years and still plays an important part in the community.

Revd Lindley said: “We are looking forward to celebrating 100 years and look forward to another 100 years.

"We welcome everyone and we still play an important part in peoples lives."

St Ann’s Church is described as a traditional middle high and inclusive parish church which also houses a Sunday School and a children’s activity area in the church.

The church is Belfield’s Anglican Parish Church. It was consecrated by the Bishop of Manchester in 1913 and is located at Rochdale Road, Belfield.

“Hopefully the centenary celebrations will remind people of everything the church has done in its 100 years,” added Revd Lindley.
