Tough Mudder

Date published: 24 September 2013

A team of 24 Rochdale fitness fanatics will face blood, sweat and mud when they attempt to conquer one of the world’s toughest physical challenges for charity, next month.

On Saturday 5 October, the team from Full Contact Performance Centre (FCPC) in Castleton, will take on Tough Mudder at Cholmondeley Estate in Cheshire, in a bid to raise funds for a number of nominated charities and causes including Springhill Hospice, In between ears and Ailsa Malcom–Hutton, a young mum diagnosed with Motor Neurone disease.

Tough Mudder is a hardcore 12 mile-long obstacle course designed by the Special Forces to test a person’s all round strength, stamina, mental grit, and camaraderie. Participants fight their way through mud, fire, ice water and 10,000 volts of electricity.

The Marine.Fit Mudders team, named after the gruelling marine style training sessions they attend at FCPC, have been training all year for the challenge. They are being put through their paces by ex-marine Andy Tyson.

Andy, who is now a personal trainer at FCPC and runs the Marine.Fit classes, served in the Royal Marines for six years (2004 – 2010), so knows what’s in-store for the team. He toured Iraq and Afghanistan and has faced many of the challenging conditions featured in Tough Mudder, on a daily basis.

Andy commented: “People think we’re crazy to do it but it will be an amazing experience. It’s going to be tough physically and mentally, but we’re going to have fun and focus on all that money we are raising – and the free beer you get at the finish line!”

With over 1,000,000 participants worldwide, Tough Mudder has become a global phenomenon and the ultimate adventure challenge series in the world.
