Advice for transport and road users: TUC march on Manchester city centre

Date published: 24 September 2013

People travelling through Manchester city centre on Sunday (29 September) are advised to prepare for road delays and disruption to public transport services during a TUC protest march.

Thousands of people are expected to join the march, which will move off from Liverpool Road at 12.15pm on a route through the city centre to Whitworth Park.

Some city centre roads will be closed until they are clear and diversions will be in place from early morning. Some roads will also be closed in the Moss Side area due to coach parking.

Bus services will be diverted around the city centre and Moss Side. For more information on road closures and bus services click here or visit www.tfgm.com.

A revised Metrolink service will run from around 11am for the duration of the event. All Metrolink services to the south of the city centre will be affected and a shuttle bus replacement service will run. Metrolink services will resume as soon as the march has passed through the city centre.

Howard Hartley, TfGM Head of Bus, said: “This is going to be a huge event with people coming from all over the country. There will be disruption to traffic flows through the city centre – and that includes bus and Metrolink services.

“It’s key that people make sure they are well informed and check their journey before travelling. As always with events of this kind, it’s wise to set off early and allow plenty of time to get to your destination.

“Information is available on the web and by phone and we’ll have additional staff in the city centre and on the Metrolink network on the day to advise people.”

Information on all public transport services across Greater Manchester is available from Traveline on 0871 200 22 33 (calls cost 10p per minute plus any network charges).
