The Italian job

Date published: 23 September 2013

A former Hopwood Hall College TV and radio production student recently completed his first TV job working on a new ITV1 cooking show which is hosted by celebrity chef Gino D’Acampo.

29 year old Guglielmo ‘Guli’ Soreca, who is originally from Italy but lived in Rochdale while he was studying at the College, spent five weeks on the new show including two weeks filming back home in Italy.

The six-week series, ‘Gino’s Italian Escape’, started this month and can be seen on ITV1 at 8pm on Friday’s. The show combines lifestyle, travel and cookery and sees Gino revealing the best-kept secrets of Southern Italy where he (and Guli) grew up.

For the show, Guli’s first job since graduating from Leeds University this summer, he got to travel with the celebrity chef and the production team all round Southern Italy - from the Amalfi Coast to Rome and from Puglia to the Basilicata regions.

After completing production on ‘Gino’s Italian Escape’, Guli worked on Britain's Secret Treasures, season two, and is currently doing an internship with a film studio in Leeds working on a $10 million feature film starring some of Hollywood’s top actors.

Guli’s course tutor, Howard Holt, commented: “When the opportunity arose I had no hesitation in recommending Guli for the role. Whilst at college he consistently demonstrated a good work ethic and was deservedly rewarded with distinctions for his coursework. Staff in the Uniform Public Services department remember Guli as the producer of their much-admired promotional film.”

Speaking of his time at Hopwood Hall College, Guli said: “I learnt so much at college and really appreciate my tutors and the opportunities the course gave me. When I arrived at university I had a real advantage over many of my peers in terms of both practical skills and organising a production.”
