The news section of Rochdale Online will be celebrating its ten year anniversary today (29 September 2013).
The first news story was published in 2003 after Rochdale Online director John Kay suggested the site have a news section.
The first story to be published in the news section was an article about the mayor’s charity cheque presentation.
John said: “I think that ten years ago online news struggled to be taken seriously but today it is a form of media that has come a long way.
"Rochdale Online has a bright future as its readership expands as print newspaper circulation drops month on month.”
Rochdale Online receives 100,000 unique visitors a month and the news archive, available via the news search, now has close to 30,000 articles.
Rochdale Online covers news throughout the borough and is the only news office based in Rochdale offering breaking, community, business, sport and school news.
