Three deliberate fires linked
Date published: 23 September 2013
Police are appealing for witnesses after three fires in Middleton.
Just before 1.20am on Saturday 21 September 2013, a Citroen C4 car was set on fire outside a home on Gable Drive. While the fire service and police were at the scene, another fire was discovered at another house on the same road. This time the garden fence was on fire.
Minutes later, another call was received after garden furniture was set alight at a home on Gavel Walk.
Detective Constable Dan Daly from Middleton INPT said: “As the fires were all in a short space of time and in a small area, we are linking them and treating them as deliberate.
“No one was hurt and they did not pose a risk to anyone as the fire service dealt with the blazes quickly. However, there are obvious dangers when a car full of petrol is set on alight.
“We do not have any descriptions of the offenders but I would ask anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the neighbourhood to contact police.”
Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 8742 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
