Kris Scott and Mike Flatley win the Kingsway 5K and 10K runs

Kris Scott won the 5K race with Tom Ely a close second and Dom Kennerly third.

The 10K race was won by Mike Flatley, ahead of Phillip Bennett in second and Jim Wyatt in third.

Kingsway Park Sports centre played host to the Kingsway Run - a series of races taking place in and around Kingsway Business Park - today (Sunday 22 September).

For the second year, the event attracted runners of all ages to take part in their choice of either a 5k or 10k race.

The races were organised by specialist race manager Nick Work, in association with Rochdale Development Agency and the Kingsway Partnership, after a successful event last year.

Chief Executive of Rochdale Development Agency, John Hudson said: “It really is a community event and hopefully it is something that can become an annual event.”

The race took runners across the paths and roadways on and around Kingsway Business Park.

John added: “It is also about showing people that Kingsway is not just a business park and that there are other things that it has to offer.”

A children’s race was also held, inviting children to run off some of their energy around the running track.

“A lot of people come with their families so it's nice to let the kids get involved with it as well. It is usually one/two laps of the track depending how big they are,” said John.

All runners who participated in the race were awarded with a medal after they crossed the finish line.

“It's gone great and we have had a good turn out and a good number of entrants again this year,” added John.
