First Littleborough 10k road race takes place

Date published: 22 September 2013

The first Littleborough 10k road run took place today (Sunday 22 September) with 200 runners taking part.

The run, which was organised by John Lloyd, started opposite Littleborough train station and took runners along Hollingworth Road, around Hollingworth Lake, down Clegg Road and finished at the Wheatsheaf Pub on Church Street.

John said: “Littleborough is a great place to run so I wanted to encourage people to come to places that they wouldn’t necessarily come to.”

The race attracted a mix of runners including people who like good courses, people who like to run in a fun environment and people who want to run outside of their running teams.

Steven Calderbank took part in the run and said: “I’ve been running for a few years now so it’s good to do some events every now and again. I live around the corner as well so it's nice to have a local event.”

Heather Brewer took part in the run with her sister and said: “I’ve done some of these before. I got involved through my sister so we’re running together.”

Hafsa, who usually runs on a Sunday morning, took part in the race to avoid running alone. She said: “I usually go out on my own on a Sunday morning so when I saw the signs I thought I would get involved so I wasn’t running on my own all of the time.”

The run began at 10am and male and female first place winners received a £60 voucher.

John added: “I want to thank the people of Littleborough for their support with the event.”

John already has plans on going for a second run, which he hopes to organise for next year.

The race was certified by course measurement and insured under UKA.
