Oompah Band concert

A full house at Milnrow workmen’s club were treated to an oompah concert from Milnrow Band Oompah Band on Friday 13 September.

The oompah band which consists of 12 members of Milnrow Champion Section Band were suitably attired for the performance. The girls wore colourful milk maid style costumes with the boys in the mandatory  leder hosenand feathered hats.

Led on Solo Cornet by Joanne Johnson and conducted by David Hebb, who also acted as compere, the band got the audience involved from the start with 'Stein Song' and 'Oh Mein Papa'. Other performances included 'Snee Waltzer', 'Trumpeter Echoes', 'Village Band' and the ever popular 'Roll out the Barrel'.

Joanne also wowed the audience with her solo item 'Spanish Eyes'.

Concert proceedings were helped along by various games and entertainment from compere, David Hebb. 

The concert ended with the bands rendition of 'Radetsky March' and 'Floral Dance'. 

All proceeds from the event will go towards Milnrow Band’s London October Contest expenses.

The event was organised with the help of the club steward, Andy Lees and by the good auspices of Milnrow Workmen’s` Club Committee.

Rehearsals are now under way for the band’s first ever appearance at the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain Finals in the Albert Hall London on 12 October.
