Wardle Student Diary - Work Experience

Date published: 19 September 2013

Over the summer I did some work experience at Hopwood Electrical Services, which was arranged by Mrs Davies-Kenny.

At the start of the week I went onto the site where I refitted roof lighting and helped out with tools and collecting materials and unscrewing fittings.

I then created my CS card and passed the test where I had to answer some questions. I needed 14.4 to pass and I got 16 out of 18. I then went on to create my work experience folder to put all of my work sheets inside of it. After all of that I created my ID badge which allowed me on and off site.

In the middle of the week, I planned a hand drawn office layout which included measurements of all the upstairs and downstairs. This included every window, light, light switch, and door. I then went on the computer on AutoCAD and everything that I did on paper, I did on the computer.

Later, I went out to peoples’ homes/bungalows and replaced all the old sockets with new ones. I then changed a three piece plug’s wires and tested it worked. I also learnt how to install an input/output device on a fire alarm which releases all of the magnets on a door when the fire alarm goes off.

At the end of the week I completed my office layout design and it was all printed off. The most interesting part of the experience was going on site and doing practical tasks. It was good working as part of a team as well.
